Barontini's signature in Celle Ligure
Final comeback of the U23 European champion for the success in the 800 meters at the Meeting Arcobaleno
Source: fidal.it (translated)
Simone Barontini - as expected - is the protagonist of the 32nd Arcobaleno Meeting in Celle Ligure (Savona). The under 23 European champion imposed himself in his 800 meters, in a fluctuating test, with a great comeback in the final straight, after being bottled in the group at -200 meters. It did not seem the best evening for the Marches of the Fiamme azzurre, without the usual attitude of a front runner and the change of pace in the second lap. This time the azzurro remained more covered, he gave the impression of not having much energy available but in the final two hundred meters he brought out his pride and overtook all rivals. With 1: 47.49 he burned the American Jonah Koech (1: 47.68), the continental U23 finalist of the 1500 Nesim Amsellek (San Rocchino, 1: 47.69 PB), Abdelhakim Elliasmine (Atl. Bergamo 1959 Oriocenter, 1: 48.09), Gabriele Aquaro (Team-A Lombardia, 1: 48.53). For Barontini, multiple Italian champion of the specialty, it was the first outing after the title won in Tallinn on 11 July. For women, in the 800s, first place for the Dutch Suzanne Voorrips (2: 05.60).
Among the other races of the meeting, victory in the 400 hurdles for the Jamaican Malik James-King in 49.51 in front of José Bencosme (Fiamme Gialle) at the season of 50.59, South African women's brace in the 400hs with Zeney van der Walt (56.07) and Gezelle Magerman (56.38) on Rebecca Sartori (Fiamme Oro, 57.90).
Italian successes in the sprint with Alessia Pavese (Aeronautica, 23.70 / 0.0) in the 200, with Roberto Rigali (Bergamo Stars) in the 100 meters (10.64 / -0.6) and among women for the sprinter Giorgia Bellinazzi (Atl. Brugnera Friulintagli, 11.75 / -0.8).
In the men's 200 the South African Nicholas Ferns (21.04 / 0.3), the Romanian Mihai Cristian Pislaru (46.66) and the female Dutch Marit Dopheide (53.30), in the 100hs the Irish Kate Doherty (13.80) /-0.7).
Thursday the 31st Arcobaleno Atletica MeetingEuropa in Celle Ligure. Here are the main names
Everything is ready, at the Giuseppe Olmo-Pino Ferro Sports Center in Celle Ligure, for the 31st Arcobaleno AtleticaEuropa Meeting, scheduled for next Thursday by the Celle Ligure Athletic Center and the Arcobaleno Athletics Savona, promoted by the Municipalities of Celle Ligure and Varazze, with the support of the Agostino De Mari Foundation and with the patronage of Regione Liguria, Provincia di Savona, Coni, CIP, Inail and Fispes.
The event, entered by FIDAL in the "Atletica Italiana Progetto Meeting" circuit with the qualification of an international event, will see 450 athletes coming from 20 nations as protagonists, in particular, the participation of some delegations of the Europe Athletisme Promotion circuit, of which Celle Ligure it is part of the first edition: Namur (Belgium), Budapest (Hungary), Loughborough (Great Britain), Belfast (Northern Ireland) and Malta. In the women's field, in the 100 floors, the challenge is between the Nigerian Joy Udo-Gabriel and the blue Sofia Bonicalza (Pro Sesto), with the possible inclusion of the Belgian Dominique Tchapda. In the 200 floors, there will basically be a repeat of the comparison on the 100, but here, based on the credits, Bonicalza is favored. The presence of Marta Milani (Army) is interesting. Better credit (51.87) in the 400 plans for the South African Bustine Palframan but the Hungarian Evelin Nadhazy and the Spanish Carmen Sanchez are not to be underestimated. In the 800, one of the most exciting competitions, the darling of the house Stefania Biscuola (Atletica Arcobaleno) challenges the Danish Stina Troest and the blue Irene Vian and Serena Troiani. Mandie Brandt is also in the race, a South African already capable of racing in 2.04. The 100 Obstacles see the Hungarian Petra Reposi favored, with outsiders the blue Angelica Wegierska and Desola Oki. Parterre extremely qualified even in the 400 obstacles, led by the 2019 U-20 world champion, the South African Zeney Van der Walt, able to dominate the Celle race in 2018 and also to achieve the event record. The New Zealander Mackenzie Keenan, the Moroccan Lamiae Lhabz (former champion of Africa) and some British specialists complete an elite picture. In the long jump many emotions with the French Eloyse Leseur-Aimonin, climbed to 6.64 in the recent Meeting of Marseille, the South African Elijone Kruge (6.61 her accreditation) and Anabel Vitale, the young star of Athletics Arcobaleno. In the men's field, in the 100 floors, three names for the victory, with the possibility of a time trial under 10.30: Jalen Miller (USA), Jerry Japka (Nigeria) and the young Belgian Raphael Kapenda. 200 floors: the Japanese Akiyuki Hashimoto (20.35 his credit) starts with the favors of the prediction, but Miller and Japka are ready to take advantage of his eventual defaillance. In the 400 floors the blue Michele Tricca (Fiamme Gialle) measures the ambitions of the new Asian champion Yousef KARAM (Kuwait), brought this year to 44.84. Chapter 800: contest certainly very tight with as many as 8 accredited athletes of chrono less than 1.49. Favorito Stefano Migliorati (CS S. Rocchino) recently dropped to 1.47.43. In the 110 Obstacles another competitive and technically highly qualified test with 4 athletes under 13.80. For the victory, the Brazilian duel between Paulo Da Silva and Brito Filipe Da Silva is likely. Both have already run in the season close to 13.50. In the 400 Obstacles, a new duel on times of excellence: the Japanese Keisuke Nozawa (49.51) against New Zealander Michael Cochrane (49.58). Top race in the High Jump with 3 accredited personal athletes over 2.25. Two South Africans: the junior Breyto Poole and the most experienced Mpho Links, to challenge the Japanese Fujita Keitaro, already for some days on stage in Celle Ligure. In the long jump and in the weight throw two Hungarians lead the start lists: Laszlo Szabo (strong 7.99 achieved this year in June) seems to have no rivals to his height, as well as Detrik Balasz who boasts a performance of 17.26. In agreement with the Fispes, the 20th Trophy Together in the Agostino De Mari Sport Foundation will be awarded in the specialty of the jet of weight for athletes in wheelchairs. The Italian champion Michele Briano will take part, also starting in Celle Ligure the Paralympic players Lorenzo Tonetto (Trionfo Ligure) in the weight throw and Roberto La Barbera (Atletica Alessandria) in the long jump A free shuttle bus service is provided from the town center to the stadium starting at 3.30 pm, when youth competitions start with an international program starting at 6 pm.
